Life's a Beach

Well, as those of you in areas that actually get a "winter" may know, it has been an especially warm January here on the central coast.

We spent a recent Sunday strolling the length of Pismo Beach. I think it was about 75 degrees. Sorry.

Spencer's favorite part was learning to take flying leaps off of the dunes.

Daddy teaches Spencer all the best stuff while I bemusedly look on.

Fun at the Park

Shawn and Spencer enjoyed a recent visit to Mitchell Park. We have been trying to take full advantage of the sunny and crisp January days and hopefully tire that boy out too!

New Years Day

We spent a peaceful, sunny and green New Year's Day at

Haila & Clark's compound up on the hill in Cayucos.

There were lots of pots of soup, snacks, martinis, mimosas, happy people and napping to be enjoyed.

I always love scouting out the new art displays around the house and was quite tickled at the Jesus, Mary & Joseph surf board.

What a way to start of the year!

Spencer-ism

So, while enjoying our dinner together last night, Spencer asked me

"Mom, are these strawberries organic?"

Why yes, I replied, they are. He then asked "Why?"

I went on to explain on a 3 year old level about pertisides and chemical fertilizers.

I told Spencer "these are better for you and better for the earth too".

He replied, "Is the whole earth going to come have dinner with us?"

Christmas Eve

Spencer & I enjoyed a care-free day on the town Christmas Eve, including a special treat of hot chocolate at Uptown/Black Horse! Spencer was a reluctant model, but maybe you can almost feel the warm fire, smell the pine tree and taste the yummy coco. This may also be a new tradition!

Cooking Class

The family spent a very fun evening at The Garden's Kitchen in SLO for a cooking class. We helped make and then ate a fabulous 4 course dinner all the while the wine was flowing. Spencer had fun racing his cars around the concrete floor and chowing on edamame while the rest of us did the hard work (ha!). A good time was had by all and this may now become a family holiday tradition. Thanks to Ashliegh for making it an easy, stress free night and to Steve for pouring all the wine!

Silly Girls

It is almost impossible to get my sister Kimberlee, my niece Kari & me together without some kind of silliness happening. Here are the results of our group photo session at our early Christmas celebration when our dad Bob, his wife Marty & daughter Leah came to visit. Enjoy the goofballs!

Snow Night

One of Dave's co-workers at the city hosted a snow-night party at their beautiful house in Atascadero. Spencer had a blast sliding down on his new sled. Shawn and I had to try it out too!

We enjoyed soups, desserts and drinks and will definitely head back up next year.

Holiday Parade

We had lots of fun at the annual SLO Holiday Parade! Spencer & his pal Sophie had a front row seat and conspired together to occasionally sneak off to steal cookies from the coffee shop.

This parade gets longer every year, but Spencer enjoys it more every year too!

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful time on our Thanksgiving road trip this year! We spent time with Haila's cousins in Three Rivers, visited with my dad Bob & Marty & Leah, and visited the snow & Santa at Lake Shasta.

Spencer had a great time on the trampoline and playing with cousin Eli.

We went on a great hike inot the Sequoias that led to "Ladybug Lookout". There were thousands of the little bugs clustered on the rocks! So cool.

Spencer got his own tent and sleeping bag at dad & Marty's and he loved it. It's always good to get spoiled by the Grandparents!

Our last day was spent driving up to Sierra Summit for a little bit of snow fun. Spencer found a loose snowboard and jumped right on. He is a natural. Also had fun making snow angels-where did he learn about that?

Santa was not too scary this year as Spencer wanted to be sure his request got to the big man himself.

Spent a wonderful surprise weekend in Big Sur for my
Birthday!

Breakfast at Deetjen's, hiking at Point Lobos, wine and chips in our cozy cabin, The Road on audiobook, crackling fire, dinner at Nepenthe, and lots of grown-up alone time.

Just what I needed!

Followed up by a fun day on the town with my girls and vegan key-lime pie at mom & Dave's.

Cat's Eye

Poor Bijiou! A friend came by the other night & accidentally let the cat out. When she returned home a few hours later all seemed ok, until we realized she had a hurt eye! After a trip to the Vet ER (thanks Kimberlee & Bob!) she was diagnosed as having a gouge taken out of her eye. Four medications two times a day later & we're hoping to save the eye. No more outside adventures for little Bijiou.

Spencer had a great time trick-or-treating! What a cute...I mean scary Pterodactyl! We let him pick one piece of candy when he was done & he chose a lollipop. We asked him what flavor it was and he replied, "Medicine flavor!". Guess we've done a good job keeping him away from the candy thus far.

Halloween Heartbreakers

Spencer and I had fun making and decorating Halloween cookies last night. I broke my no eggs, no dairy and had 2 cookies. Well, lesson learned. I had the suger shakes and couldn't drink enough water afterward. Sugar is the devil!

Elfin Forest

We met up with friends Eric, Ann & their daughter Sophie for a walk through the Elfin Forest yesterday morning. It was cold and foggy-perfect October Los Osos weather. Friends Terri & Keith & daughter Vera met up with us too. After, we all walked down the the Oktoberfest in Baywood & enjoyed a lunch of Noi's Thai Take-Out. Yum!

Harvest Party

We spent Sunday afternoon at the Huasna Valley Farm Harvest Party!
We had a great time eating the yummy farm offerings, drinking chai beer (so good!), picking strawberries and pumpkins, playing horseshoes and letting Spencer "drive" the tractor.
The tomatoes and basil were slimy and withered from the 19 degree night! You would have never know it was that cold (it was 86 when we left!). Ahhh, farm life....

Pajama Day

Today was pajama and breakfast day at Spencer's school. He insisted on wearing his monster short-shorts pj's. I think he would be a candidate for membership in the Village People!

Pumpkin Town

We spent Sunday morning at the Avila Valley Barn and kicked off the fall season. As usual, we enjoyed the hay ride, picking apples and the hay maze. Spencer would have run through that thing all day long if we let him!

Then we went to "Pumpkin Town" tent on Broad for some bunce house fun! Our friend Sophie was there too. Again, Spencer would have stayed there until he fell down from exhaustion. It's fun being 3!

Lake Nacimiento
